March’s Potluck Lunch & Learn – Fall Into Action

This March, we’ll have a special Potluck Lunch & Learn event geared especially for our seniors. Did you know that 1 in 3 seniors over the age of 65 suffer from a fall each year? We want you to FALL INTO ACTION and learn what medications and health conditions put you at greater risk for a fall, what environmental hazards to avoid, and tips and exercises for improving your balance and strength. We’ll have free product giveaways and free testing and evaluation by trained YMCA fitness staff and Physician Assistant students from South College. Stay tuned for more details!

Saturday Group Swim Lessons Now Available

If you’d like to get your kids into swim lessons, but weekdays are just too hectic, we’re now offering Saturday morning group swim lessons at North Side! 4 Saturday lessons cost $25 for Y Members or $37 for Program Participants. March group lesson registration has started, so register now for Tuesday/Thursday lessons or for Saturday lessons. March lessons WILL have special dates to allow for Spring Break!

Gym Schedule

Our adult basketball leagues are in full swing! Our women’s league has games on Thursday nights, and our men’s leagues play on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Please be aware that our gym will be closed to accomodate our leagues. Check the gym schedule for open gym times.

Swim Testing Policies

In 2012 we are striving to make our pools even safer than before! Please take a look at our new swim testing policies and safety neck band proceedures here!

We will be giving out swim bands for all children under 13 to keep. Each child must bring that safety necklace with them each time they swim. If someone forgets their necklace they will be asked to pay $1 to the front desk for a replacement necklace. No one under the age of 13 will be allowed to swim without a swim necklace. All guests and pool parties will be asked to return their necklaces upon leaving the Cansler Y.

International Foods and Soups Potluck

Get ready to sample some delicious foods from around the world and warm up with some good soup. Thursday February 9th we will be hosting another potluck luncheon for our members in Studio A from 11:45am – 1:45pm. Please stop by the front desk and let us know what you will be bringing to the event.

Parent’s Night Out February 10th

Take your sweetheart out on the town and let us watch the kids. Parent’s Night Out is scheduled for Friday February 10th from 6-9pm. The cost is $10 per child, 2 children $15, 3 or more $20 total. Cardio Theater Debuts Thursday Jan. 12th

Members can now enjoy a little Hollywood entertainment while cycling a few miles or rowing some meters in Studio D. Family friendly movie selections will be posted daily. Currently movies will be at noon and 4pm on the weekdays. We will add an evening movie option that works around our scheduled classes. Please check the whiteboard outside of Studio D for the movie selections. We hope you enjoy this new feature!

Mardi Gras 2012 -10 Tickets Available

The YMCA and the Epilepsy Foundation of East Tennessee presents Mardi Gras 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Hotal Tuesday February 21 from 6-8:30pm. Tickets are $25 for a night of fun and festivities with Cajun food, a live jazz band and a silent auction. If you would like to purchase tickets for this event please stop by the Membership Desk.
