Y Happenings
Meeting the Challenge is an exercise class for adults with Developmental Disabilities. All too often adults in the Special Needs population live very sedentary lifestyles. The goal of The YMCA is to activate America and this entails reaching out to people in the community unlike other fitness organizations. The Meeting the Challenge class is led by Erin Barberee, who has a Master Degree in Rehabilition Counseling and has been employed with the YMCA of East Tennesse for 7 years. The class consists of weight training, aerobics, cardio machine workouts, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and all other sports. A few times throughout the year we have board game night or an art project to work on fine motor skills. The participants are very excited to add swimming to the class agenda on the last Monday of each month. The Meeting the Challenge class meets on Monday Nights at 7:00 in Studio A. The class is free for members and $30 for ten weeks to non-members. The first class is free! Come join this class for exercise and a whole lot of fun!
