Leaders Club
YMCA Leader's Club goes back a long way. The first Leaders' Corp of young people
was organized by Dr. J. Garner Smith at the New York City YMCA in 1885. In 1922
the "Original Leader's School" was conducted at Blue Ridge Assembly
in Black Mountain, NC. From its inception, the objective of the school has been
to supplement the work of the local associations in inspiring and training
lay leaders in the programs of the YMCA.
YMCA
Leader's Club is a volunteer organization for
youth in middle and high school. Club activities
focus on service for the YMCA and the community
as well as physical fitness. Leaders volunteer
by helping with youth basketball, flag football,
Child Watch/ Kool Kidz, Family Fun Nights, and
many other programs. The West Side Leader's Club
currently meets on Monday evenings from 7-8 pm.
Leaders who have met specific volunteer and physical
fitness requirements have the opportunity to go
to Blue Ridge Leaders School. This leadership school
is a great experience for all who attend and challenges
youth to improve their leadership and fitness skills.
Meetings: Mondays 7-8 pm
Club Requirements: Monthly volunteer & workout hours;
minimum GPA
Dues: $60/year (paid $30 bi-annually)
